Chirp – Kate Messner
*crickets- It’s so quiet you can hear Crickets! Wait! Do you hear that… someone’s there! When Mia (the main character) moves back to Vermont in the book, Chirp by Kate Messner, there is some major suspicion around her Grandma’s Cricket Farm and someone trying to sabotage it! The possibilities are endless of who could be getting back at Mia’s Grandma. However, Mia has her own problems aside from her grandma, but with moving: No friends, and having to join two summer camps to get engaged again. Mia decides to join the Ninja warrior camp and a jr. business program to distract her from past memories. These past memories are very hard to deal with as it ended up with a gymnastics accident with a broken arm. While at these camps Mia makes a new friend, Clover, which leads to them becoming best buddies throughout their investigations and other challenges. However, even with the help of Clover will Mia catch the person sabotaging the cricket farm or will she even help her Grandma in a positive way? To answer all of Mia’s questions read Chirp by Kate Messner.
Another great book like Chirp is the Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart. This book was about Coyote, whose mom and sisters suddenly die in a car crash leaving her and her dad to a new lifestyle. However, this new life is traveling the country by living on a school bus and trying to forget what happened. Coyote and Mia are also both dealing with some problems after their own different incidents. Each character does not speak about the challenges they have faced because they are too difficult to talk about. Even though Coyote is not trying to solve a mystery like Mia both girls are making new friends on their journey to uncover the truth surrounding issues both families are facing. If this book sounds good read The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart, but still read Chirp by Kate Messner.
