So far in my teams Culture of Readers initiative (Making lifesize scenes of books) we are currently launching our project within the classrooms of Hopewell, and finishing the building process of our scene. In the past months we have developed our scripts which are in the midst of being presented to the students. On the other hand, we have also been working behind the scenes in creating our representation of the books. Our group has had help from our peers in paper mache to painting. In this process of creating the scenes we have made paper mache waves and surfboard, we have also made the different characters of our books out of cardboard and have painted them. Also, we have put effort into creating voting boxes and using Ms. Nottons (6th grade teacher) cricut (Paper Cutter) to make large words for the scenes. However, in order to make these scenes we have been brainstorming ideas from the books students will be trying to guess. In this process we are learning how to use each other’s ideas and combine them to make our display. Our next steps are putting the scene up so students can guess what book they think it represents. I look forward to seeing how the kids react to our project after all of our hard work through these past months. Overall, I hope to inspire my school to read more and use their imagination after we leave the legacy of our project at Hopewell.
